your preschooler wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t test limits and begin to establish autonomy. as parents, it is our job to help our children learn what those limits are, how to manage emotional reactions and frustrations and what behaviors are acceptable, all while fostering a healthy self esteem and sense of independence. this workshop will focus on providing your preschooler with limit setting and discipline in an effective way, as well as strategies to help you change your child’s behavior through positive discipline. we’ll cover effective ways to prompt and praise your child, the use of incentives and rewards, how to give an effective time-out, behavior shaping for more challenging behaviors, and how to respond (or not respond) to minor mis-behaviors.

nurturing problem solving skills workshop (ages 3-7)
in toddlerhood, parents spend a lot of time teaching appropriate ways to behave, react, and respond. but by 3 or 4, most children already know why they should do things and consequently, many parents find themselves constantly repeating phrases like, "how many times do I have to tell you?" or, "I can't believe I'm having to say this again!" the problem is, understanding doesn't mean doing and children are much more likely to carry out an idea that is their own.
the I can problem solve workshop, based on dr. myrna shure's research, will give parents the tools to help their young children learn to take more responsibility for their own behavior by equipping them with skills to make good decisions and the freedom to use them. when children learn how to think and not what to think, they begin to evaluate the consequences of their behavior, consider the perspectives of others and come up with good solutions to problems on their own.
parents will be given an I can problem solve workbook filled with dialogues, games, activities and stories that they can complete with their children.
